What should I use while fly fishing in upstate new york?

I recently started fly fishing and I am heading out with a couple friends to a river. I don’t know what type of fly I should use because alone I have had no luck. My father fishing with a spincaster and is catching browns, walleye, a northern, and weve seen trout. I don’t care which Icatch I just want to know what flys I should use/ what line!

You might be getting a little ahead of yourself. There is no one fly to use when fly fishing, and it will be difficult for someone who is not familiar with the water you’re fishing to tell you what fly to use.

In fly fishing, you have to read the situation and then decide what to use "on the fly" so to speak. You base your approach on the conditions, and the conditions may change within the course of a single day. The trick is to know and constantly observe the water, fish, weather, etc. The best thing you can do is to observe feeding fish and either see what they are eating or try to figure it out. There are lots of ways to do this — look at the surface of the water for one thing. If you see lots of the same kind of insect floating or moving on the water’s surface, and you see fish rising to them, find a fly that looks like that insect and cast it to rising fish. You can also get down in the water, kick over some rocks, and see what kinds of critters scatter — might be little shrimp/scuds, caddis larvae, or pollywogs. You might observe minnows or other small fish in the water — if there are little shoals of minnows skittering around near the banks, you can bet that the fish are picking some of them off, so imitate them.

A big part of fishing is knowing your gear, your lures, your tackle, but another part of fishing is knowing the fish and the water. What do they eat? When do they eat? What kinds of food are in the river? Where is food available? How do conditions change throughout the year? To be good at fly fishing you have to figure all that stuff out. The bad news is… it might take the rest of your life to figure it out. The good news is… it might take the rest of your life to figure it out. Heh heh. A little fishing humor there.

Oh, and I almost forgot — ask the locals. If you see fly anglers fishing, politely approach them and ask for advice. They might not tell you everything they know, but any decent angler will help you out. Fly shops and sporting good stores can also be good sources of information — fly shop clerks are usually pretty good anglers who don’t get to fish as much as they’d like, so they’ll at least talk to you about fishing…

In this situation, because I don’t know what what you’re fishing (and I’ve never fly fished in New York State, anyway) the best I can do is give you very general advice on what to fish. I know that mayflies are still hatching in the east, so you can try those. Baetis and quill patterns will work almost anywhere east of the Mississippi. However, if you don’t see fish feeding from the surface, dry mayflies might not do you any good. You could also try mayfly nymphs and emergers — these patterns often work better than dry patterns. Aside from those, you might try the usual arsenal of attractors and all-purpose patterns, such as minnows, Woolly Buggers, leaches, scuds, Hare’s Ear, Pheasant Tail, Wullf’s, Adams, and Humpy’s.

In general, the smaller, dead-drift type flies (like mayflies or small nymphs) are more likely to attract the the trouts, while bigger, more actively fished flies will get the attention of the walleye and pike. However, your mileage may vary.

Good luck to you. Catch a few for Y!A.

How Many pounds of a fish can i catch with a 10-25 pound line test on a ugly stik fishing rod?

I Just Bought a uglystik thats 7 feet tall and says 10-25 pound line im going on a fishing trip to the ocean and expecting to catch a 50 pound fish is this possible and how? Dose a Fish weigh less in water?

You can catch 100 pounders with that line but this is strictly based on your skill. There was a guy who caught a world record Marlin and used only 8 pound test line (monofilament). Just make sure you are using a leader that is double your line strength, you have your drag set at 1/3 the breaking strength of your main line and use sharp hooks. Do fish weigh less in the water, no, it’s the same weight . It’s just buoyancy that makes things feel lighter when you hold it in the water.~good luck catchin’.

Hire a Fly Fishing Guide

If you have not taken the class for fly fishing and have not experience fly fishing, I advise you to choose a guide. A good guide will offer you lots of help, and you can learn much knowledge from him. This article will teach you how to choose a good guide.

Step1
Check your local fly shop for recommendations on guides. Not only will this connect you with fishers specific to the areas you want to fish, but many guides work out of local fly shops and get clients through their referrals. But book early; if you wait, you may end up with whomever the fly shop can muster at the last minute.

Step2
Decide if you want to do walk-and-wade fishing without a boat, or if you want to try out fishing on a drift boat. This may point you in the direction of one guide over another.

Step3
Ask what skill level the guide specializes in, and match your skills appropriately.

Step4
Determine what the guide’s price covers. Things to consider when evaluating the price are: What equipment is included; are there extra charges for flies; what gear should you to bring; how long will you actually spend on the water; is there a fee for use of private water; is lunch included and does it cover a shuttle to the fishing site?

Step5
Ask how many fishers the fee covers and how much it is to add another person. See if you can partner with a fisher of similar ability. Sometimes adding on an additional fisher and splitting the trip that way is cheaper than going alone.

Step6
Choose someone who is not going to fish while you are, but who is going to help you fish. The best way to learn is to do it, not watch someone else do it for you.

Thought On Fishing

Fishing is a complicated process,it not only need techniques but also need some necessary conditions. This article will tell you the conditions for fishing.

Terrestials for fishing. The smaller the stream the better luck you’ll have fishing terrestials. Trees are more likely to hang over a greater portion of stream. Out of these trees all sorts of beetles and ants will fall in the river. If your fishing a heavily wooded section of river that’s what you should fish: ants and beetles. If the surrounding area has a lot of grass and you see those hoppers then throw those guys. On smaller streams terrestials become a large part of the diet.

Time for fishing. The best time for fishing is afternoon. At that time, fish are eating a lot for their metabolism and digestion are cranked. The water begins to warm up because rays begin to penetrate the water. Remember to fish the downwind shoreline, as the winds will push the warmer surface water along with surface food into that area. Fish are eating a lot because their metabolism and digestion are cranked. Water is warm because the sun is directly overhead.

Methods for fishing. There are many methods for fishing, such as Bait Casting, Spin Casting, Fly Fishing, Still Fishing, Drift Fishing, Chumming, Live Lining, Bottom Bouncing, Trolling, Jig and Worm ,Jigging, Ice Fishing, Fishing From Boats. If you only want to enjoy the process, you can catch the fish and release it. Proper catch and release fishing techniques also reduce fish fighting and handling times and help avoid damage to fish skin, scales and slime layers.

Tool for fishing. Fishing tool include natural bait, lures, rigs, tackle, rods and reels. Proper catch and release fishing techniques also reduce fish fighting and handling times and help avoid damage to fish skin, scales and slime layers. Poppers and flies are small lures used with spincasting and fly-fishing tackle. These baits are very good for pan fish and other fish that feed on the surface such as trout and bass. Other things you can browse on the internet too.

Learn How I Made $34,197.20 Selling an E-book Online

If ever you have wanted to learn how to make money on the internet by selling e-books, then this could be the most important article you will ever read.

Here’s why:

You are about to learn how I went from not knowing a thing about making money on the internet to selling over 856 copies of an e-book for $39.95 that has so far made $34,197.20 in sales… and growing.

Before I get into it, I would like to tell you a little bit about myself.

I first logged onto the internet way back in 1995. To make it clear, this was before Google was even born. Back then I was just a consumer of the internet. That means I wasted my time surfing from site to site and didn’t make any money.

Then in 2002 I created my first website. This website was selling a downloadable e-book for $27.77. Since that time I have read countless e-books and reports about how to make money on the internet. I have gone to many expensive internet marketing seminars. I have met countless online “guru’s”. But most importantly I have been in the trenches applying all of this knowledge to find out what works online and what doesn’t.

The model that has made me the most money online has been selling information products. An information product is just a product that gives people information about what they want to know. This can be a an e-book, an MP3 audio file, a C.D. recording or even a video. The products I like to create are ‘How To’ information products that can be instantly downloaded. The reason I like downloadable products is that I don’t have to worry about shipping.

Having said that, there are places online that can ship physical products on your behalf if you want, such as http://www.IFulFill.com. However I don’t like the hassle of shipping physical items for now.

So what downloadable information products could you sell?

That depends. You see, there are courses out there which teach you to scour the internet to find ‘hungry’ markets with few competitors and then create an information product the market wants.

There is nothing wrong with this strategy and it does work.

The only problem is that if you are a beginner at creating information products on the internet then I would suggest you start with a market that you either know a lot about or that you are interested in. That is how I first started out and now I make hundreds of dollars online every week.

For example, what if a beginner found that ‘Crochet’ was a hot market but had no interest what-so-ever in crochet? And what if they weren’t successful at the start? I think they would not only quickly lose interest in this market but perhaps internet marketing all together. However, if they stuck with a niche they were interested in and stayed with it, I think they would be more likely to make internet marketing work for them.

What I teach beginners on the internet is to brainstorm at least 101 ideas for their first information product and then narrow it down to say the top 5 ideas before choosing one to run with.

To do this, firstly list down as many ideas of things that you are interested in.

This could be sports you play, hobbies you have, stuff you know a lot about or perhaps things you spend a lot of time doing. You may get say 20 ideas doing this initial brainstorming session. Just keep writing down ideas of things you are interested in, even if you don’t think you could create an information product out of it.

After you have brainstormed as many ideas as you can, you can then use a free tool on the internet to ‘reverse brainstorm’ even more ideas. The key here is to find at least 101 potential ideas for your own information product to sell on the internet.

The place I go to ‘reverse brainstorm’ ideas is at KeywordDiscovery. You can get to KeywordDiscovery by cutting and pasting the following link into your browser:

http://www.KeywordDiscovery.com/search.html

For example, if you type in the word ‘Crochet’, you can see how many times people searched online for crochet in a given month. Pretty cool, huh?

Now, the way I ‘reverse brainstorm’ potential ideas for niche markets to enter is to type a generic word into the search bar.

For example, you will see that the second most searched term (at the time of writing) is ‘Free Crochet Patterns’.

What I do to ‘reverse brainstorm’ is type the generic terms such as ‘Free’ or ‘Pattern’ into the keyword search bar and see what niche’s appear that also contain that term.

For example, if you type ‘Patterns’ into the search bar you will find the following niche’s appear within the search results:

Pumpkin carving

Knitting

Sewing

Cross stitch

Quilting

Stained glass

Scroll saw

Jack o lanterns

Weddings

Embroidery

Costume patterns

Wood patterns

Purse patterns

Woodworking

Bead patterns

Afghan patterns

Tole painting

Fishing

Celtic patterns

Prom dress

Teddy bears

Celtic patterns

Mosaic patterns

Wood craft

Hemp

Necklaces

Tattoos

Curtains

Puppets

Bridesmaid

Yarn

Dolls

Ceramic tiles

Beading

Doll clothes

Halloween

Handbags

Henna

Camouflage

Pillow patterns

Drapes

That’s is 41 potential ideas just by typing one generic word into the Keyword Research Tool. Sure, you’re probably not into ‘Celtic Patterns’ or ‘Ceramic Tiles’, but it shouldn’t take you too long before you have brainstormed at least 101 potential ideas.

This ‘reverse brainstorming’ technique saves you the hassle of having to think about markets to enter. The keyword research tool does all the thinking for you and each of these ideas is a potential niche to enter. This is not to say that they are all profitable and likely to produce sales online, but it lets you create a list of ideas you probably wouldn’t have otherwise thought of.

As you scroll through the list and find topics that you are interested in then jot them down in your folder until you have brainstormed at least 101 ideas for your information product.

Once you have a list of 101 potential product ideas, the next step is to find out whether these niche ideas could be profitable. The reason for this is that not all markets are the same. Some markets such as making money, saving money or personal development to name a few are lucrative, whereas others such as ‘How to wear a hat’, ‘How to tie shoelaces’ and ‘How to brush your teeth’ for example are not.

The reason for this is that to do well online you have to add value to your potential customer. Some markets add massive value to your customer and they will be more likely to buy your product. However, other markets add less value to your customer and you may struggle making a sale of your product.

You can find out more to see if a market is potentially profitable by picking up your free 35 page e-book ‘How To Do The Work Once And Make Money In Your Sleep – LT Edition’ by clicking on the link below. It pays to find out in advance if a market is profitable before launching a product and a website. The reason for this is that you will save yourself a lot of time and frustration down the track when you wonder why the market isn’t buying your product.

Talk soon,

David Styles.
